Windsor Communities

Windsor Communities is a property management company that owns a large number of properties spread throughout the United States. In redesigning their website, they had multiple large-scale goals: Revitalizing and updating their brand; capitalizing on "search engine optimization (SEO)" tactics; consolidating, segmenting, and simplifying site navigation; and creating a flexible, easy-to use/maintain module for properties that could accommodate a large range of information and media types.
Windsor Communities' redesign also featured a number of smaller, equally important goals, including increased lead generation and visitor retention, an institutional standard for floor and site plans, offline promotional materials, and supporting content types for Windsor employees and existing tenants. A sitewide, contextually-aware contact form was also suggested and created, allowing users to quickly find the appropriate Windsor Communities representative.

The Windsor Communities homepage utilizes large "property-as-brand" images to communicate the company's main offering. A warm color palette helps to create a feeling of warmth and acceptance.
Navigation has been consolidated into three main segments: long-term renters, short-term renters, and brand differentiators; with supporting secondary and tertiary categories.

With two of the main segments — long and short-term renters — visitors are started down the path of self-selection. An interactive map displays states and major metropolitan areas where properties are available.
Flexible content areas have also been created, allowing Windsor Communities to display content specific to the type of prospective renter (model apartment photography, video testimonials, etc.)

Regional and state-level search results display a quick overview of each property. High-level property information and unique offerings are prioritized for quick selection, and cleanly-labeled secondary navigation and breadcrumbing help to communicate a sense of place within the site.
Google Maps are introduced, alerting the user to other properties located within the area that they may not have normally considered. An omnipresent "browse bar" allows a user to quickly jump to any other of the available Windsor Communities.

Incredibly flexible property-level pages can accommodate a wide range of content: Properties with a large amount of information are segmented in a way that is logically-paced and not overwhelming, while properties with a lesser amount do not appear comparatively inadequate. Areas have been delegated for popular user functions (e-mailing a friend, driving directions, etc.), quick property contact information, promotions and specials, and in-depth property information, legal policies, and marketing copy.
A flexible "media zone" allows a range of special rich-media content types to be displayed, including image galleries, filterable Google Maps, zoomable floor and site plans, video tours, and 360° views. The media zone is modularly constructed, allowing Windsor Communities development team to quickly and easily insert new content types as they become available.

Custom PDFs may be generated by the user, allowing them to self-select as much or as little information about the property as they want.
Common take-away information such as floor and site plans are specially formatted for printing.
